Oh, trying to make the character look normal within its habitat, but I'll being too scary or too friendly like a Pokémon. Then finding reference photos of city scavengers, transferring the sketch onto an illustration board prepped with gesso, and painting with gouache to add depth and detail. The end result is a captivating artwork that brings my vision to life.

Welcome to my sketchbook! Here, I document my creative process of carving out different values in each portrait by first blocking in shapes. This allows me to capture the overall form and structure of my subjects before refining the details. I hope you enjoy following along on my artistic journey!
For my illustration practice, I took on the character Robin and started by prepping an illustration board with gesso. Once that was sorted, I figured out the composition and dove right into bringing Robin to life. But let me tell you, this piece gave me a run for my money! It was a bit more challenging than I anticipated.
So, I decided to take a different approach. I scanned the final artwork and worked some digital magic to brighten up the colors. It really made a difference and added some extra pop to the illustration.
By blending traditional techniques with digital tweaks, I pushed myself to grow as an artist and give Robin a fresh and captivating look. It was an exciting journey of experimentation and skill-building, and I'm thrilled with the end result.

Like Batman, Batgirl has always inspired my artistic journey. I start with gesso on an illustration board, carefully sketching the composition before adding depth and layers of color. Check out my work-in-progress Batgirl painting in gouache!
I have so much fun painting in gouache. I found an awesome reference of superman and replicated it as part of my painting practice.
To start off, I prepped an illustration board with gesso, creating a texture that I liked. I then sketched out my rough idea onto the board, and moved on to laying down my darkest darks. From there, I worked my way into color, layering as I went along. Layering is a big part of my process as it allows me to create depth and richness in the colors.
Once I'm happy with the values that I've placed, I'll go on top with more details, adding highlights and shadows to create dimensionality and depth in the piece. Throughout the process, I make sure to step back and take breaks to get a fresh perspective and assess the progress of the painting.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my process. I hope you enjoy my artwork and feel inspired to create something of your own!

Batman has always been an inspiration to me, and my artistic journey was influenced by the character at an early age. My mom got me a Batman vs Predator comic book, and it was through that comic book that I began practicing my early sketches.
One of my favorite mediums to work with is gouache, which is known for its opaque properties and vibrant colors. To begin my gouache painting process, I prepare an illustration board with gesso to create the texture I desire. I then sketch out my composition and begin adding my darkest darks before working my way into color and layering. I continuously refine the values and colors, adding more details as needed to achieve my desired outcome.
Through my website, I hope to share my love for art, while also offering insights into my artistic journey and creative process. Whether you're a fan of Batman, an aspiring artist, or simply appreciate the beauty of art, I invite you to explore my website and join me on this creative journey.

The theme for this mural is "The Future is the Human Experience," and my concept explores the idea of superficiality through plastic surgery. While these procedures may temporarily make us feel better about ourselves, true self-acceptance ultimately comes from within.
My creative process begins in my trusty sketchbook, where I problem-solve and figure out the best composition for my piece. Once I've flushed out my ideal design, I source references and take photos to better draw certain areas. When I'm happy with my sketch, it's time to transfer it to the wall.
To ensure accuracy, I create a traditional grid and follow it to the best of my ability, making changes as I go along. As I paint, I'll bring my concept to life, using bold colors and intricate details to convey the message of the mural.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about my process. I hope you enjoy my artwork and leave feeling inspired!

As an avid basketball player and lover of New York City, I recently had the opportunity to complete a project for the MTA that allowed me to combine both of these passions. The theme of the project was "Things I Love About New York City That Include Trains," and it brought back a flood of memories from my teenage years when I played AAU basketball all over the city.
In those summers, I spent countless hours traveling on trains, navigating the city's subway system to get to games and watch other teams play. But it wasn't just about the basketball – it was about the experience of being in New York City, one of the most vibrant and exciting places in the world.
For me and many others, basketball in New York City is a special kind of magic. It's the energy of the crowds, the rhythm of the game, and the way that basketball courts are woven into the fabric of the city. From the iconic courts of Dyckman to the countless schoolyards and community centers where we played, basketball was a way of life in New York City.
And of course, the trains were an essential part of that experience. They were my lifeline, my connection to the rest of the city and the world beyond. I rode them with a sense of purpose and excitement, knowing that they would take me to where I needed to go.
So when I was asked to create a project that celebrated the things I love about New York City and trains, it was an easy choice. For me, it's all about the memories of those summers playing basketball, riding the trains, and soaking up the energy of this incredible city.
“The Giant in the Meadow” Illustration process
I have been working on a children's book concept called "The Giant in the Meadow" for the past few months. While I cannot reveal the plot just yet, I am happy to share my creative process.
To start, I focus on the size of the illustration, which helps me determine the composition. Next, I sketch out all the elements that I want to include in the illustration. Once I have a clear idea of what I want to portray, I use watercolor wash to paint each item individually.
After hand-painting all the elements, I scan each one into the computer and place them where they were in the original sketch. I then edit each item digitally as necessary to ensure that the final composition is cohesive and visually appealing.

If you're an artist, you know that drawing figures can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to the face. However, taking a moment to focus on the face and its features can make all the difference. That's why I like to take my time and practice the correct proportions when drawing faces.
When drawing a face, it's important to pay attention to the placement and size of the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. Correct proportions can make a face look more realistic and help to capture the essence of the subject. To ensure that I'm practicing correct proportions, I often use reference images or models to guide me.
By taking the time to focus on the face and its features, I'm able to create more lifelike and expressive drawings. Whether I'm working on a portrait or a character design, this technique helps me to achieve the desired outcome and bring my art to life.

This allowed for a unique and eye-catching design that could be used across various mediums.
